A Different Kind of TNC
“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” This old proverb can be directly applied to the story of Leo Grand and Patrick McConlogue.
Grand had been homeless for nearly two years after losing his job with MetLife when McConlogue approached him with an offer. $100 dollars or a crash course in computer coding, Grand chose the latter.
Over the next 16 weeks, Leo developed “Trees for Cars”, a mobile app that allows its users to track and lower their carbon emissions by connecting users to carpools. In December 2013, the app went on sale for iOS and Android and has since garnered more than $10,000 in sales.
Turn to Tech, a mobile software development school, recently awarded Leo a full scholarship to continue his education and further his application’s growth.
