Uber recently announced plans to initiate research and development of new ways to verify the background of its drivers.
The new system would include biometrics and voice verification as a safety measure for screening out possible offenders in the hiring process.
This news comes after the company shut down operations in the city of New Delhi after one of its drivers was arrested for allegedly raping a female passenger.
